What Does the Coming Year Hold for Your Business?

December 28, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

I think we will all be incredibly happy to put 2020 behind us in a few days.

It’s been a rough year for businesses, not to mention the entire world. Unless you’re Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Eric Yuan of Zoom or some other tech giant who has benefitted immensely from the general chaos this year.

That being said, businesses of all sizes and kinds have flourished, despite the general… well… you know… (waves hands in every direction).

Wishing You Happy Holidays and a Bright, Wonderful New Year

December 21, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

My Christmas tree with a black cat sniffing it.

Happy Holidays from me and Irusan! (You can see him sniffing the tree in the right lower side of the picture.)

This is my traditional, very short holiday blog post to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season, whichever you partake in, and a fabulous new year.

Let’s face it, 2020 has thrown wrenches in just about every plan we’ve made, in some way or another. It’s been a heck of a year and I hope 2021 treats the entire world much better than its predecessor.

I will say, 2020 has had its own odd rewards. While I was struggling along with everyone else to keep my business afloat, I took some time to work on my business as opposed to in my business. I’ve made some improvements and added new products and services. I increased my own education and learned a bunch of new marketing skills. What else was I going to do with all that downtime?

For me, this means I’ve set 2021 up to be a banner year. I’ll update you on more of this as we move into January.

I hope you and your business have survived the crazy year that 2020 has been. I also hope you have had time to make potential improvements to your business, so 2021 see you not only surviving but thriving.

Have a wonderful holiday season, which I hope you’ll get to spend with friends and family, even if it is over Zoom.

Talk to you next week.

The Many Things I am Grateful For This Year

November 24, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

It’s Thanksgiving week, and even in this absolutely crazy, messed up year, I have a lot to be grateful for. I call these my “Gratitudes.” In place of a regular blog post, I’m going to share some of them with you today.

A Big Change for My Freelance Copywriter Career

April 17, 2017 by Tanya Brody 10 Comments

looking toward the horizon freelance copywriter

I apologize for a blog post delay of 2 weeks. A lot has changed for me during this time.

I went to Santa Barbara, California on April 3rd to work on site with my client, FunnelDash. During that time, I was offered a full-time position with the company. I accepted.

Last Wednesday, I signed the paperwork that makes me officially a full-time employee of FunnelDash.

I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m terrified and I’m thrilled, all at the same time.

This opportunity is just too good to pass up. I’ll be helping to build a phenomenal company that has an awesome product. I’ll get to learn tons, even if it is all trial by fire. And I’ll be working with an incredible team of people, some of whom are former colleagues from other companies.

This changes a lot of things for me.

First, I am now down to one “client.” I’ll be focusing exclusively on work for them. I won’t be taking on new clients any time in the foreseeable future.

In fact, I’ve already notified all of my freelance copywriter clients who have projects in the works or who were just starting projects with me, that I can finish what we’re working on, but after that, I’ll have to refer them to another copywriter.

Honestly, this feels weird. Especially since my last post was wishing a Happy Birthday to my blog and my freelance copywriter business.

I was very excited about being my own boss again. And there is still very much that feeling with my new company. But I will be an “employee” with reviews, responsibilities and deadlines, etc.

Granted, most of this is exactly what I’ve been doing for my clients. Nothing will be drastically different, at least to begin with. But ultimately, it is a shift for me. A good one, I hope.

I will continue to blog about running a small business and offering ideas for small business owners to grow their own businesses. This is something near and dear to my heart. I want to support all of you, regardless of my employment status.

I’m still working for a small business, so I hope I’ll be able to share some of what I’m learning, in ways you can apply it to your own businesses.

I also want to hear from you. Let me know what you think. Let me know how you’re doing.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my crazy journey,

Cheers,
Tanya

Happy Birthday to My Blog and My Freelance Copywriter Business

March 27, 2017 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

Happy Birthday to my Freelance Copywriter Blog

Happy Birthday to my Freelance Copywriter Blog

This month marks one full year since I started writing this blog.

I can’t claim I’ve been incredibly consistent, or that everything I’ve written has been perfect, but I’ve kept it up to the best of my ability, as I’m growing my own freelance copywriter business.

It’s been a little over a month since I wrote a status report on what I’m doing. My last one reported that I’d made my goal, without realizing it, months ago. Yay me! Thank you again, all of you, for your congratulations, whether they came in the comments on that blog post, on my Facebook page or Twitter feed, or in a private email. They mean the world to me.

Suffice it to say, things are picking up around here. One of my new clients, a company called FunnelDash, brought me out to the Traffic and Conversion Summit earlier this month. It was fantastic. I met lots of folks, learned more about FunnelDash’s product and had a wonderful time.

Meanwhile, I continue working on projects for other clients and am currently booked through mid-April, if not further out (which is great for me, but hard if you need something done quickly.)

I’m closer and closer to making my goal a regular occurrence, instead of a spike in activity, which makes me even happier. For those of you who are wondering if you can “make it” yourselves, the answer is yes. You can. It takes time and determination, but if I did it, you can do it!

For the record, I’m going to save personal blog posts until the end of the month from now on. They used to come out around the 13th of each month, which is when I started this blog, March 13th, 2016. I don’t want to do that anymore, so, from now on, you’ll have to wait until the end of the month to find out what’s going on in my world.

Ultimately, this blog is not about me. I enjoy reporting in on my progress, and I’ve gotten good feedback from many of you, telling me that I’m an inspiration to those of you who are starting your own businesses, or who have your own businesses and are struggling to make them work.

Really, this blog is about you. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t write a blog post every week. I’ve got a lot going on and sometimes, I feel like I don’t know what to write about. Or I feel like I’m shouting into an echo chamber, writing about the same things everyone else writes about, just from a different voice.

I write this blog for you. All of you. Whether you’re my friends and family who humor me as I walk down this crazy path, or you’re on your own, similarly crazy path and are trudging along with me. I do this for your benefit, not mine.

So, tell me what you want to know. Tell me where you’re having problems and how I can help. Tell me what experiences of mine you want to hear about. I am here to serve you, my fellow small business owners and folks who are kind enough to follow what I’m doing.

Stop behaving like a typical Minnesota audience, who give the polite golf clap and come up to you to tell you that they love what you’re doing, then walk away with a bemused look on their faces. (I grew up in Minnesota, I live here now, and I’ve been a touring musician and performer. I am licensed to say these things.)

Tell me what you like about my blog posts. Tell me what you hate. Tell me what you want to see more of, so I can give it to you. Really. I want your feedback. Either leave it in the comments below or fill out this survey.

I want to help you get to where I am now, and continue on to where I’m going. I want all of us to be successful in our own spheres. (I’m weird like that. I think everyone deserves to make it. Success isn’t a pie that diminishes the more others take. There’s plenty to go around.)

Yes, I’m always interested in helping you be successful by writing your advertising copy. And I’m aware that I can’t handle all of you as clients. I need to sleep occasionally. But I can help you with writing techniques, ideas and marketing advice.

Help me help you. What do you need? What will get you to that next step on your path to success?

I look forward to hearing from you in the comments, or on the survey.

Thanks, as always for following along on my crazy journey as I grow my freelance copywriter business.
