Today’s newsletter is going to be shorter than usual.
That’s because I’m insanely busy working at the polls for the California Primary this week. I do this because I firmly believe that everyone, regardless of party or personal politics, who legally has the right to vote should be voting and that it should be easy for them to do so.
I am also a person who believes in “putting my money where my mouth is.” So, twice a year during election years here in the U.S., I work for my county government as an Elections Worker. This year, I’m a Lead, meaning people will ask me more questions and I have more paperwork to fill out.
This is my contribution to continuing and supporting the democratic process in my country and my state. It’s important to me and I want to help ensure we all get our voices heard by our government officials, at all levels.
Why do I mention this, beyond the fact that I have very little time to write this week’s Email Marketing Ecosystem newsletter?
Because I want you to know this about me, as a person.
You already know me as a business owner and email marketing strategist (and yes, evangelist). But, unless you know me personally, which you may, you probably don’t know that I work at a voting center because I want to make sure everyone who can vote is able to.
I don’t know how this makes you feel about me.
I hope it adds to your overall good impression of me. Not because I do this to curry favor with you, but because I want you to see and know me as a regular old, average fellow human being.
And I want you to be able to make a decision as to whether I’m your “cup of tea” when it comes to working with me or even staying on my email list.
I also mention it to model this for you.
This is the type of thing you should talk about in your own weekly nurture emails.
Not only is it good email fodder when you’re stuck on what to write, it also shows your subscribers who you are, what you believe in, and why that matters to them.
It makes you more “human” and less “faceless business.”
We all want to do business with people we like. Therefore, the more others know about us, the more likely we are to attract the people who are “right” for our business.
The next time you’re sitting at your computer, staring at a blank document that should become your next nurture email and have no idea what to write…
Share something personal, like I just did (within reason, of course). Let your subscribers get to know you beyond that “business face.” Show your subscribers who you are, so they can decide whether they’re in the right place, and to welcome them into your community.
Because we’re all connected to each other in some way, shape, or form. It’s always good to know who you’re dealing with. And when your subscribers know that you share their values, they’ll be even more likely to support you.
Have a great week, and if you’re in California, or any other U.S. state with an upcoming primary, please vote!
Finally, today’s pictures are of my amazing team at my Voting Center and the beautiful first bloom on my new Gardenia tree. It smells fantastic!
