I Never Know What to Write
This is the most common complaint I hear from business owners when it comes to email marketing.
Believe me, I get this. Coming up with ideas for what to write in my own emails, week after week, can be really frustrating.
Here’s the key to always knowing what to write.
Understand your audience.
It’s true. When you have a clearly defined audience and you understand their desires, wants, needs, fears, dreams, etc. you will never run out of ideas to write about.
Understanding your audience is more than just knowing who they are. It’s also clearly defining who you’re writing to. Many companies want as large an audience as possible, which can be a horrible idea.
If you’re trying to appeal to everyone, you’re not focusing on anyone. If you focus on a specific, smaller slice of “everyone” you’ll do a better job of attracting the right customers to your business.
You don’t want “everyone” to be your customer. You want the people who need what you have to offer and who will benefit from it the most. Those are the people who are willing to pay for the solution to their problems.
Once you’re attracting the right customers, you’ll know exactly what it is they want, which makes it much easier to come up with topics to write about in your emails.

I Never Get Any Response to My Emails
This can be incredibly frustrating. You work hard to write these emails.
If no one opens them, or if they do open them but don’t click through to your offer, the problem is in your messaging.
You need to tell your subscribers what they want to hear. This may sound crazy, or even like pandering. But it’s not.
And it’s one of the simplest and most effective “tricks” in marketing.
You use the same language your target audience uses.
When you do this, your subscribers will think, “Oh my gosh, how did they get inside my head? They really get me!” This is what builds trust and authority with your subscribers and it’s also what leads to clicks and sales.
The way you learn what your target audience wants is to truly understand them. Then you take those words and use them to position your own product or service as the solution to your target audience’s problem.

When you understand how positioning and messaging work, you’ll have an easier time doing it for your own product or service.
I Have a Terrible Time Getting New Leads
This is a constant problem for many businesses. Sometimes it feels like no matter what you do or who you appeal to, you’re just not getting the number of leads you need for your business.
Or, you’re getting leads, but no one is buying. They behave like “tire kickers” at a used car lot, asking lots of questions but never actually handing over their credit card, no matter how hard you work to convince them to do so.
The problem could be your lead generation system.
First, if you’ve never addressed the two issues above, your lead generation efforts will attract the wrong people.
Next, there are lots of different ways to generate leads. The most common is a lead generation funnel, but what if that’s not the right fit for your business? Or what if you’ve got a lead generation funnel that’s not working well?

Here’s the wonderful thing about automation. Once you get it set up and running correctly, you can sit back and let it do its job without worrying about it.
Sure, you’ll need to check it occasionally and update certain items within the system when you change your offer. Otherwise, you can focus on other things in your business, knowing you’ve got an effective system in place.
And as you automate more and more of your email marketing, everything gets easier.
I will admit, you can’t automate absolutely everything in email marketing. And there are tasks you have to do regularly, even to automated systems. But you can automate a lot of it. Which will save you so much time and effort.

I hear this from business owners who only email their lists when they’re selling something.

The best way to build trust and authority in your business and for your product or service is to communicate consistently with your subscribers.
