Your Past Experience Can Be a Huge Boon to Your Current Business

This blog post was originally published on March 2nd, 2020. It has been recently updated with new information to help small business owners use their stories in their weekly nurture emails as part of their email marketing.

Once upon a time, there was a 15-year old girl who played harp and sang at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. She was asked to make costumes for other performers, based on the ones she made for herself. The first year, she made about 5 pieces for other performers. The following year, costuming took up most of her summer.

This continued on, to varying degrees depending on education opportunities and access to sewing machines, for 15 years. Somewhere in there, she got a degree in Creative Writing and Theater. She worked various and sundry other weird jobs, some good, some bad, one involving large cats.

After that, she gave up costuming to become a full-time touring musician. (Instead of part-time, as she’d already been doing for several years.) That’s where she started her very first email list.

Then her life fell apart. (That’s a different blog post and one that may or may not happen in the future.)

So she went back to a “real job.” First, she made Muppets for Sesame Street Live shows. Then, she got a job in a totally new field, using the creative writing side of her degree as a copywriter, writing promotional text on websites for law firms. After that, she worked for a well-known Mar-Tech start up. Then, she launched her freelance copywriting career.

Now, she teaches business owners how to harness the power of email marketing to get more customers and make more sales.

That is a VERY condensed version of my odd work history.

But all of it has added to my current experience as a small business owner, helping other small business owners.

Regardless of your background and work history, you’ve got amazing skills that you bring to your small business too.

Can You Use AI to Write Your Marketing Emails?

January 17, 2023 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

Everyone is up in arms about how artificial intelligence (AI) is taking over marketing and copywriters and marketers are going to lose their jobs or become obsolete.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah….

All of this came to a head when ChatGPT became the big story last December and everyone was predicting it would change the way everyone did everything, from writing computer code to writing the Great American Novel.

This especially became a story in the digital marketing world, because so many people predicted this marvelous new tool would replace copywriters.

Several digital marketing gurus jumped on this bandwagon and created courses purporting to show you how to use AI to “revolutionize your business.” I’ve seen a few that claim you can use AI to write all of your marketing copy in minutes too.

Whatever.

Use Your Thank You Page to Get That New Subscriber to Say Yes Again

July 13, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

Generic Thank You page

The ever neglected Thank You page.

You’ve probably seen these after you’ve filled out and submitted a form. They thank you for making a purchase or downloading a lead magnet. Then they give you information on how you’ll receive what you’ve requested.

Most of them stop there.

Some of them don’t even do that much.

Which is a wasted opportunity in my opinion. Thank You pages can do so much more if you use them correctly.

6 Reasons Why Email Marketing Should be Your Primary Marketing Method

June 29, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

There are plenty of marketing channels out there these days. Social media ads, PPC ads, display ads, direct response, print ads (yes, that’s still a thing), blogging, billboards, the list goes on and on.

Yet, through all of the technological advances and new platforms, email marketing has remained a consistent, profitable and useful way to communicate directly with current and potential customers.

Which is why email marketing continues to be a leading marketing method, despite the fact that so many people who claim to be “in the know” have declared it dead.

Here are 6 reasons why email marketing is thriving and why you should be using it for your business.

How to Re-Engage Email Subscribers with a Simple Warm-Up Sequence

June 21, 2020 by Tanya Brody Leave a Comment

My last several blog posts have been about why you need to re-engage email subscribers who have stopped reading your emails.

However, you can’t just throw people right back into your standard email sequence. Well… you can, but you might piss them off and cause them to unsubscribe, which means all your re-engagement efforts would go to waste.

Instead, take the time to set up an automated warm-up sequence to remind your re-engaged email subscribers why it’s worth it to be on your list. Deliver value before you start selling again. That way, your subscribers appreciate what you do for them and are more likely to buy.
